MeerLICHT is BlackGEM’s sister project and comprises a single BlackGEM telescope. Critically, this first telescope system will act as a prototype for the BlackGEM array and will couple one of the BlackGEM telescopes to the MeerKAT radio array (a precursor to the Square Kilometer Array) located in South Africa. This will allow for the simultaneous study of the optical-radio skies!
MeerLICHT is being built at the Sutherland site in South Africa. Due to complementary science goals with BlackGEM, it is run as an independent project and will be operational by February 2017!
