The BlackGEM Local Transient Survey (BG-LT)
Every twilight and every three hours afterwards one of the BlackGEM telescopes will cover 50 square degrees of sky concentrated on local (<100 Mpc) mass overdensities in the nearby Universe. This Local Transient program will be performed in the u,q and i filters. The scientific aim is to monitor the population of massive, luminous binary stars in the nearby Universe, and to detect low-luminosity transient events.
Per half-hour slot 18 fields, each 2.7 square degrees large, will be monitored. Each field will be revisited every day for as long as it remains visible to the array.
