Policy for access to the domes
This policy was written down by Paul Groot,27 Jan 2017 and edited by José Versteeg-Veltkamp, 14 Nov 2018:
Everyone that wants to use the telescopes should have obtained their telescope license. No exceptions.
If people specifically ask to have access to the domes areas for e.g. outreach activities but will not be operating the telescopes themselves, this should also be made very clear at the start, but this should be an extremely limited number of people, preferably zero.
Bachelor & master students are *only* given access to the domes if i) they have done their telescope training, ii) they have volunteered for an outreach activity organized by the Department of Astrophysics and iii) for a period no longer than 1 year. After that 1 year period they will have to re-do the licensing process.
PhDs and Postdocs are *only* given access to the domes if i) they have done their telescope training, ii) they have volunteered for an outreach activity organized by the Department of Astrophysics and iii) for a period no longer than 2 years. After that 2 year period they will have to re-do the licensing process.
Staff members in the department will have access to the domes, but will need to do the telescope training if they actually want to handle the telescopes during outreach activities or for actual observing.
Members of the AKN will have access to the domes if cleared with Harry Balster.
People from outside of the department and non-members of the AKN can only be granted access to the domes if it is very clear why they need to be there in the first place. No 'random' access can be granted.
In all cases of doubt, send an email to telescopes@astro.ru.nl
