+**Observing and modelling interstellar dust in galaxies
+Dust grains play a special role in producing and processing radiation. They are efficient at absorbing and scattering UV/optical photons and then reradiate the absorbed energy in the infrared. The most complete understanding of the dust in galaxies hence can be obtained by combining UV/optical and infrared data. I will report on our ongoing effort to investigate the dust energy balance in nearby spiral galaxies. I will present the latest observational results obtained with the Herschel Space Observatory, and the results from our panchromatic radiative transfer modelling with the SKIRT code.
