The Chilbolton station follows similar stations in the Netherlands and Germany and more are expected to come in France, Sweden, and Poland.

 +The largest radio telescope in the world, LOFAR, was opened officially last Saturday, by Her Majesty Queen Beatrix. The Radboud University Nijmegen is an important participant in the project and has contributed to the design of the hard- and software of the telescope. The network of radio antennas on the fields of the province Drente has, since then, been elaborated with measurement stations in the UK, Germany, Sweden and France. Other countries are soon to follow. The larger LOFAR will become, the more information it will be able to receive and the better the direction and distance to a certain source can be determined.

 +Haili Hu received a prestigious Frye stipendium by the Radboud University for her PhD research project on pulsating subdwarf-B stars. The Frye stipendia are rewarded yearly to 3rd year PhD students of the Radboud University, who have delivered remarkable achievements during their PhD research. Haili Hu receives the stipendium because of her work on the coupling of double-star evolution calculations with asteroseismological models to be able to predict and explain the pulsation behaviour of subdwarf-B stars. Haili will use her Frye stipendium amongst others for a work visit to the Cambridge University. The granting will take place in a special assembly of the  College of Deans, on December 23rd at the University'​s Aula.

 +Wetenschappen / Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences) has appointed prof.dr. Paul Groot, head of the Dept. of Astrophysics,​ him member of 'De Jonge Akademie'/​ Young Academy. 'De Jonge Akademie'​ exists of some 70 young scientists from all specialisms. 'De Jonge Akademie'​ is aimed at the promotion of internal and external contacts between young scientists and society. Paul Groot has been appointed because of his scientific work with compact double stars, gamma ray bursts and the EGAPS survey, and also for his efforts in the collaborative founding of the Department of Astrophysics at the Radboud University. ​
